Joseph E. Robert Jr. Center for Surgical Care

Senior Vice President: Kurt D. Newman, MD
Executive Director: David Ashman

Learn more about the Sheikh Zayed Institute.
The Joseph E. Robert, Jr., Center for Surgical Care at Children’s National Medical Center provides the highest level of care to infants, children and adolescents needing surgery. Children’s surgeons perform more than 15,000 surgeries each year on infants, children and adolescents. Children’s surgeons perform laser surgery and employ many types of minimally invasive
techniques.

Children’s teams perform the most pediatric cases in the area. Children’s surgeons operate exclusively on children, affording them the highest level of pediatric expertise in the Washington region. Children’s also guarantees a pediatric-trained anesthesiologist 24 hours a day, a unique but important service. Frequently, surgeons can perform minimally invasive operations on even the smallest patients, some weighing only five or six pounds.

Many surgeries can be done on an outpatient basis, meaning patients can go home the same day. Outpatient surgeries can be performed at the Montgomery County Outpatient Center.

Children’s offers a full range of pediatric surgical specialties, including:
